Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson has urged his side to continue their winning ways following their 2-1 victory over Chippa United on Friday.

Dikwena walked away with all three points after defeating the Chilli Boys at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, when Robert Ng’ambi and Benson Shilongo cancelled out Lerato Manzini’s 19th minute opener.

The win was Dikwena’s second home victory of the season and they are now placed ninth in the Absa Premiership standings with 22 points, having won only five out of 19 matches played this season.

The 58-year-old believes his side is prepared and trained well to collect all three points, but insists that his side has to stay grounded and focus on their next match.

‘We have been pushing for a win at home. We need to try and maintain this vein of form that we are in now. The longer we maintain it, the better for us,’ Johnson told the Platinum Stars website.

‘All we have to do, is make sure that we keep the players on their toes and make sure they recover properly in between matches.’

Though Dikwena won by 2-1, Johnson feels the margin should have been higher. He bemoans his side’s missed chances in the match and feels that Dikwena should have won by a bigger goal margin.

‘First half wasn’t that great. We gave away possession in the first half and that’s when they scored the goal. We didn’t press them hard enough. We were chasing the game and we came back after half-time a much better team,’ he added.

‘We got the equalizer. We brought in Mkhabela and his first pass was a key pass to make the goal. At 1-1 we were in control. Then Benson hit that cracker.

‘A beautiful build up and then Mabena set Benson up and then he smacked it. That’s how you finish.’

Platinum Stars will next take on Golden Arrows in the Absa Premiership clash on Tuesday.

The match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
