Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his side should not read ‘too much’ into their win over Kaizer Chiefs as ‘its still early stages of pre-season’.

Goals from Themba Zwane and Jeremy Brockie helped the Brazilians secure the first-ever Shell Helix Cup after their 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium.

Mosimane, who made nine changed to the side that faced AS Togo-Port on Tuesday,  says he was happy with the outcome against Chiefs while reserving special praise for Kennedy Mweene, Lyle Lakay and Jeremy Brockie.

‘We are preparing for the Champions League on Friday. We made nine changes to the team that played last week. I’m happy with Mweene and Lyle Lakay. Lyle adjusted well. He is smart. Jeremy Brockie broke the ice. I’m happy for him,’ Mosimane said after the game.

‘We were blunt in attack in Togo. But that was an easy game to lose. Now we have to fight to lose at home. Depth. It’s the same players. They’ve been here except for Lyle and Silva. Pitso was our player. We have to prepare the overall team.’

The Sundowns mentor added that he was equally impressed with debutant Sphelele Mkhulise, who was recalled from his loan spell at Richards Bay.

‘I’m also happy for Sphelele Mkhulise. We call him Pitso. We bright him back from loan. Nice touches. We pulled him because he was cramping,’ he added.

Mosimane says he was proud to see former players Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat doing well at Amakhosi, despite it being early stages of pre-season.

‘We played this Shell Helix Ultra Cup with respect and integrity. We know our boys who are playing for Chiefs. Castro is good. Khama was also great. It’s early stages. It’s pre-season trophy. We can’t read too much into it,’ Mosimane said.
