Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt is focused on helping the club up their standards to become more competitive by restoring their winning mentality.

The 54-year-old was named as the new Amakhosi head coach last Thursday following the departure of former coach Ernst Middendorp after narrowly missing out on the 2019-20 Absa Premiership title.

Amakhosi ended all speculation around the head coach vacancy at the club after Hunt put pen to paper on a three-year contract following his departure from Bidvest Wits.

Hunt admits that he was ‘overwhelmed’ by his first look at Naturena and equally impressed with the facility and supporting staff.

‘This has been a bit overwhelming to be at this club, it’s a huge club, and I had never been to Naturena in my life. I’m blown away by the facility and the support staff behind the football team,’ Hunt told the club’s official website.

‘I haven’t seen anything like this. This is the standards I’ve seen in the big leagues and I’ve been all around the world at big clubs. This is really on par with what goes on there.

‘That’s certainly been a big eye-opener for me, to see the support staff behind the football team. We need to improve on the pitch.

‘I think the football club has improved so much off the pitch, we need to certainly bring the standards up and try to bring the team and club to be competitive and winning again.’
