Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has urged his side to ‘keep improving’ in their bid to claim the Absa Premiership title this season.

A goal by Ben Motshwari proved to be the difference after Wits beat Sundowns 1-0 at the Bidvest Stadium, as they moved to the summit of the Absa Premiership standings, with five games remaining until the end of the season.

The 52-year-old says he has been impressed by his side’s determination to improve their performance each game.

But he has also reserved special praise for youngster Reeve Frosler, who has impressed when given the chance at right back.

‘I thought it was a good gutsy performance. It was like a Champions League game and that’s what you want,’ Hunt said after the match.

‘Last year we came second by 14 points, and I said to them as long as we improve this year. I’ve been here four years, we’ve improved every year and that’s all we need to keep doing.

‘Keep improving, keep producing young players from our academy, which we do all the time. Our right-back [Reeve Frosler] has been outstanding, so that’s what it’s all about for me.’

Meanwhile, Buhle Mkhwanazi says he was impressed by the quality Sundowns possesses, but admits that his side deserved the win after their dominant performance.

‘These are the African champions, they are a good side. You could see the quality in their team and it showed as time went on. They also brought on good strikers but I think we managed to control them well,’ Mkhwanazi said.

Bidvest Wits will be hoping for a positive result to remain at the top of the Absa Premiership table when they take on Orlando Pirates in a mouthwatering fixture at Bidvest Stadium on Thursday.

Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
