Ajax Cape Town captain Travis Graham has stressed the importance of their upcoming Absa Premiership match against SuperSport United on Saturday.

The Urban Warriors will travel to the Lucas Moripe Stadium when they take on SuperSport United in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

The 23-year-old was forced to watch his side’s 1-1 with Kaizer Chiefs from the sidelines, after the midfielder picked up an accumulation of yellow cards, resulting in a one-match suspension.

Graham praised his side’s performance against Amakhosi, but has stressed the importance of getting a positive result in their next Absa Premiership encounter on Saturday.

‘I think they did exceptionally well [against Kaizer Chiefs], in all areas of the field – starting from the back,’ Graham told the Ajax Cape Town website.

‘We played as a team and I think it was really important for us to get a positive result.

‘Yes, we could have taken all three points, but I think a point was good enough, especially when playing against Kaizer Chiefs in front of a full stadium.’

The club captain continued to say that the Urban Warriors can expect a ‘tough’ match against a Matsatsantsa side who have lost only once in the Absa Premiership this season.

‘It is going to be a tough game, but especially for us, we have to take things one game at a time, playing the top teams consecutively,’ he added.

‘For us, we just have to sit down and focus on this game and make sure we get another positive result, because we need to climb the log standings as well and make sure we are safe from relegation. That is what we are playing for, to try and get as many points as we can. ‘

With important matches to follow against teams’ fighting the same fight as the Urban Warriors – beginning with a match against Free State Stars on the 17th of March – Graham is hopeful that a positive result against SuperSport will be the start of a good run in the hopes of finishing in the top half of the PSL standings.

‘I think if we are able to get a result against SuperSport, it will serve as a massive confidence booster heading into the next game. Free State Stars are also battling for points and no one wants to be in the relegation zone,’ Graham said.

‘To get the points now is really important so that we don’t have to worry about that later on.’

Ajax will next take on SuperSport United in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

The match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium kicks off at 20:15.
