Marumo Gallants have announced the appointment of French coach Romain Folz (31) as their new head coach after they recently parted ways with Dan Malesela.

Gallants recently opted against renewing Malesela’s stay at the club and confirmed his departure, despite his guiding the team to a Nedbank Cup final and a 10th-place finish in the DStv Premiership.

The club have wasted no time in finding his replacement after they announced the appointment of the French coach, who is set to take over the helm for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

Folz comes to the club with vast experience coaching the likes of West Virginia, Bechem United, Ashanti Gold and Township Rollers FC, while he also was an assistant coach at Golden Eagles, AS Salé, Pyramids FC and Chamois Niort, respectively.

“Marumo Gallants is pleased to announce the appointment of Moroccan coach Romain Folz as the club’s new coach,” a club statement read.

“Coach Folz comes with an extensive track record of leading teams abroad, and across Africa, including his previous role at Botswana-based Township Rollers FC.

“The appointment comes following the expiration of outgoing coach Dan Malesela’s contract.

“After much deliberation, the club opted to bring in Coach Folz to lead the team into the next phase of the club’s journey. Marumo Gallant’s Chairman Abram Sello stated:

“‘We welcome Coach Romain Folz to the team, he brings an impressive and energetic approach to football that we believe will be a great fit for Marumo Gallants’.

“Folz officially takes over the role of Gallant’s coach from the end of June 2022.

“‘I am very happy and honoured to join Marumo Gallants FC and a league such as the PSL. My first words are for our fans. I can only tell them that all the efforts and work we will put in every single day is for them. We want to make them proud, and I will dedicate all my time and energy to reach that goal,’ said Folz.

“June marks the one-year anniversary of the re-branded Marumo Gallants FC, and this milestone celebrates the club’s intentions to revitalise and re-energise the team for an upcoming season of success as envisioned by the highly motivated team and its leadership.

“Coach Folz’s appointment is celebrated as a step in the right direction in achieving this.”
