Free State Stars secured a 1-0 victory over Polokwane City during their warm-up program as they prepare for the Absa Premiership in February.

Ea Lla Koto’s latest result will give Serame Letsoaka’s side a confidence boost ahead of their Absa Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on February 7.

Stars goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni continued to impress between the sticks and made a vital save to deny Walter Maponyane’s free-kick, 10 minutes before the half-time interval.

However, Ea Lla Koto captain Danny Venter handed Stars the lead in the second half, when he fired his free-kick past Polokwane shot-stopper George Chigova to make it 1-0.

Rise and Shine pressed forward in search of an equalising goal but Lindokuhle Nkambule was on hand to deny attempts from Jabulani Maluleke and Tlou Segolela.

Ea Lla Koto managed to hold onto their 1-0 lead until the final whistle as they walked away as deserved winners.

Free State Stars against Kaizer Chiefs kicks off at 19:30.
