Former Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper and Maritzburg United goalkeeper coach Arthur Bartman has passed away.

The news of his passing was confirmed by the Team of Choice, where he served the PSL outfit as a player and coach.

However, Maritzburg did not clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of Bartman.

The Team of Choice posted the following statement on their social media, which reads:

‘The club has learnt with sadness of the passing of former goalkeeper coach, Arthur Bartman.

‘Prayers and thoughts go out to the Bartman family during this time. You will always be a part of the Team of Choice.’

The 46-year-old represented over 15 clubs across his career, including the likes of African Wanderers, Chiefs, Bush Bucks, Dynamos, Moroka Swallows, Supersport United, Maritzburg, Golden Arrows and Bay United since making his PSL debut in 1998-99 for African Wanderers.

Bartman also formed part of the Amakhosi team that won back-to-back Telkom Knockout titles in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

He retired from football in June 2013 before linking up with Maritzburg as their goalkeeper coach under then coach Ernst Middendorp.

The veteran would have celebrated his 47th birthday on 26 March 2019.
