The South African football community has been shocked by news of the passing of the father of late Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

Sam Meyiwa was believed to have been in and out of hospital after his health deteriorated when he suffered a stroke in August 2018.

Having Meyiwa having passed away at his home in Umlazi, he was unable to realise his wish of catching his son’s killer, with the murder case still unresolved despite his pleas.

His son Senzo was mysteriously shot dead at the home of his musician girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, in what is believed to have been a robbery in Vosloorus, Johannesburg five years ago.

Meyiwa family spokesman Nathi Ngwenya said: ‘The family is still confused and shocked. He was in a very bad shape since he suffered a stroke. He never fully recovered. His wife is in a bad state and is still very shocked.’
