Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of Argentine midfielder Matías Esquivel from outfit Club Atlético Lanús.

The 24-year-old joins the club after putting pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract, which keeps him at the club until June 2027.

Esquivel brings experience to the club having previously played for Lanús and CA Talleres in Argentina, scoring 13 goals and registering 16 assists in 126 appearances across all competitions.

The Argentine has now become the second signing at the club behind defender Zuko Mdunyelwa, who joined the club from Chippa United in December.

Mamelodi Sundowns have since released the following statement after acquiring the services of Esquivel, which reads:

“Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of Matías Esquivel from Argentine outfit Club Atlético Lanús on a four-and-a-half year deal.”

“The midfielder joins Masandawana as the second arrival of the mid-season window, following defender Zuko Mdunyelwa who joined in December 2023.

“Esquivel has joined up with his new teammates at Chloorkop as Bafana Ba Style returned from their break to gear up for the second half of the season.

“Welcome to the home of the Champions Matías!”
