Champions Mamelodi Sundowns have announced the appointment of Mathias Zangenberg as their new head of physical performance.

Zangenberg will service Sundowns working across the club to align the methodology of physical training of the senior team, ladies team as well as academy teams.

The coach holds a UEFA A license and comes with 15 years of experience most notably with Denmark Superliga sides including FC Nordsjælland.

Sundowns released the following statement on the appointment, which reads:

The 2022/23 DSTV Premiership Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, has announced the appointment of Mathias Zangenberg as the Head of Physical Performance working across the club to align the methodology of physical training of the Senior Team, Ladies Team and Academy teams.

Mathias, who is a UEFA A-license holder has worked as a physical and conditioning coach for over 15 years and has been a member of the technical team with some of the major Denmark Superliga sides including FC Nordsjælland and has gained invaluable experience from the team’s participation in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Sporting Director, Flemming Berg said: “His knowledge, experience and work ethic will assist in getting the first team to the next level and to make a clear strategy for physical training and injury prevention throughout the entire club.”

Before joining Masandawana, Mathias was with AGF Fodbold and he participated in the recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar as the physical coach of the Ghana national team. Mathias has a Masters Degree specializing in human physiology from the University of Copenhagen.
