Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed that midfielder Bongani Zungu has “rekindled” his passion for the beautiful game of football.

Then 30-year-old rejoined Sundowns following his free transfer from French Ligue 2 outfit Amiens SC on 13 August 2022.

But the midfielder struggled to cement his place in the starting lineup, making just 21 appearances in all competitions.

Mokwena has since called for patience in his development as he rediscovered his love for football, having played a few minutes in all three of Sundowns’ fixtures so far this season.

“He is making good progress and he had a solid cameo performance today. He recently shared with me that his passion for the game has been rekindled, which says a lot,” Mokwena told his club’s official website.

“It is a gradual journey and he appears to be in better physical condition. Overall, I am pleased with his dedication and it is important for us to carefully navigate the process of integrating him into action more regularly.”
