Kaizer Chiefs failed to secure their first win in the DStv Premiership following their 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Rockets produced the first real chance of the game in the seventh minute but Mlungisi Mbunjana’s shot sailed wide of the target after a quick one-two by Galaxy.

Amakhosi had a chance of their own four minutes later but Ranga Chivaviro steered his header inches wide of goal after latching on to a cross by Reeves Frosler.

Molefi Ntseki was forced into making a substitution in the 29th minute when Chivaviro was taken off due to an injury and was subsequently replaced by Christian Salie.

Salie should have handed Chiefs the lead after 40 minutes but the substitute fired his effort inches wide of the target as the game went into the break locked at goalless.

Galaxy showed their intent early on in the second half and were gifted with a goal after Higor Vidal show his shot hit the post before the ball rebounded in off Petersen.

Petersen was called into action again on the hour mark when he produced a good save to deny Galaxy another goal.

Ntseki opted to bring on fresh legs in the 64th minute when Tebogo Potsane was taken off in place of Mduduzi Shabalala before bringing on Samkelo Zwane to replace Mduduzi Mdantsane 10 minutes later.

The Rockets had a chance to double their lead in the 83rd minute but Petersen came to his side’s rescue by making a double save to deny Galaxy.

Galaxy continued to press forward in search of another goal three minutes later but Petersen made a great save to deny the home side.

However, Galaxy held on to their narrow lead over Amakhosi to secure a 1-0 victory and claim maximum points on home soil.
