Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has expressed his excitement about the Premier Soccer League’s decision to restart the 2019-20 season.

PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza confirmed that the 2019-20 season will resume on 8 August, starting with the Nedbank Cup semi-finals to be followed by the league campaign three days later.

The decision to complete the 2019-20 season was voted for ‘unanimously’ by clubs at a PSL board of governors meeting on Monday.

However, all Nedbank Cup, Absa Premiership and GladAfrica Champions games will be played behind closed doors with the venues still to be determined.

‘I think that we are all really excited to hear that we are returning back to the playing field under the circumstances,’ Comitis said.

‘To know that you have a date to resume football, and especially to resume the current season towards completion, is obviously on a sporting basis the fairest way to complete the decision on promotion and relegation.

‘I’m glad the PSL, the board of governors and the chairman made the decision in unison. We look forward to the return. Our team is ready, we have prepared for this. It’s been a long time coming and we are very grateful.’

The Citizens currently sit in 10th place in the Absa Premiership standings with 27 points from 23 matches, with seven games remaining in the season.
