Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has revealed that Tokelo Rantie still has a contract with the club, but admitted that the striker has problems that he needs to sort out.

The former Orlando Pirates and Bournemouth striker signed for the Citizens back in August after he had his contract terminated with Turkish club Genclerbirligi in December 2017.

After several months without football, Rantie looked to get his career back on track at City, but has struggled with his fitness and is still yet to make his debut for the club.

Then, after news broke on Wednesday that former Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus was joining City, rumours began swirling that Rantie was set to leave the club amid concerns over a drinking problem, and his inability to lose weight and gain fitness.

City Chairman Comitis, however, confirmed at Erasmus’ unveiling that Rantie still has a contract with the club.

‘We haven’t terminated his contract. He has some personal problems that he needs to sort out. We’ve given him a breathing space.

‘We are supporting him, but at the end of the day it is all up to him. It is difficult for him to focus at this stage,’ Comitis concluded.
