Kaizer Chiefs chairman Bobby Motaung has confirmed that the club has parted ways with Edward Manqele by mutual agreement following discussions to terminate his contract a year early.

The 29-year-old has netted one goal and assisted once from 25 appearances in all competitions since joining the Glamour Boys from  Chippa United during the 2015-16 season.

Amakhosi football manager Bobby Motaung has revealed that the forwarded agreed to leave the club to search of a new club in the hopes of gaining regular game-time.

‘Manqele was transfer listed at the end of last season but was not signed,’ Motaung told the Kaizer Chiefs website.

‘After speaking we agreed it was best to release him so he can find a new home and continue his football career.’

‘The club thanks Edward for his contribution while in the Gold & Black and wishes him all of the best in the future.’

Over the course of his career, Manqele has netted a total of 28 goals and assisted a further four from 106 appearances in all competitions playing for the likes of Free State Stars, Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroka Swallows, Chippa United and Kaizer Chiefs.

However, details of Manqele’s termination are confidential as agreed between the player and club.

Kaizer Chiefs will now turn their attention to their Nedbank Cup Last 16 clash against giant killers Acornbush United when the two sides meet on Saturday.

The match at the Kabokweni Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
