Kaizer Chiefs moved 10 points clear of Mamelodi Sundowns after securing a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Saturday. DYLAN APPOLIS reports.

The Glamour Boys came into this clash after dropping points against Black Leopards when they played out to a 1-1 draw in Thohoyandou.

Meanwhile, Arrows was forced to share the spoils with Polokwane City after a 1-1 draw in their previous league encounter.

Amakhosi got off to a good start by keeping Arrows in their own half but struggled to penetrate their defence.

The visitors came close to breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute after Kgotso Moleko made his way to cross the ball into the path of Eric Mathoho, whose first-time volley sailed wide of target.

Both sides pressed forward in the closing stages of the first half but neither could find the back of the net as the game went into the break locked at 0-0.

Amakhosi’s made their first change of the game at the restart when Ernst Middendorp introduced Reeve Frosler in place of Moleko.

Chiefs picked up the pace as Lebogang Manyama nearly handed his side the lead but saw his header blocked by the Arrows defenders.

Arrows had a chance of their own in the 66th minute but Daniel Akpeyi made a comfortable save to deny Knox Mutizwa’s attempt from a set piece.

Middendorp opted to bring on a fresh pair of legs when when Lazarous Kambole came on to replace Dumisani Zuma.

However, Amakhosi eventually found the winning goal in the dying minutes of the game when Manyama fired his volley into the back of the net from just inside the area.

The visitors held on to their narrow lead over Arrows to snatch all three points at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
