Kaizer Chiefs backed up their goalless Soweto derby with another 0-0 draw while Mamelodi Sundowns returned to winning ways at Polokwane City in an action-packed PSL Wednesday.

Chiefs were unable to make their dominance in the possession stats count as they battled to a goalless draw in Durban against Baroka. The draw means Steve Komphela’s side failed to return to the Premiership summit after consecutive draws.

Sundowns put in a clinical display to see off the threat posed by Polokwane as goals from Percy Tau (54th minute) and substitute Khama Billiat (81st minute) helped the defending champions get back to winning ways after coming short against Cape Town City in their previous encounter.

In Cape Town, Lehlohonolo Majoro scored the game’s only goal at the Cape Town Stadium sending Bloemfontein Celtic back home with no points. Majoro struck in the 23rd minute in what proved to be the game’s only goal. The Mother City’s other side, Ajax Cape Town, failed to hold onto their lead at Free State Stars and were forced into a share of the spoils.

New Ajax coach Stanley Menzo saw the Urban Warriors take the lead in the 23rd minute through Bantu Mzwakali before a 50th minute equaliser helped Ea Lla Kota to a share of the points.

Maritzburg United went in front, conceded and then were reduced to 10 men in a feisty PSL clash at the Harry Gwala Stadium against Highlands Park.

In the evening’s final encounter, Golden Arrows slumped to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Platinum Stars.
