Kaizer Chiefs’ three-match winning streak came to an end after playing out to a 0-0 draw against Highlands Park in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday evening, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The game got off to a slow start with both sides trying to find their rhythm in the opening exchanges.

Peter Shalulile came close to handing Highlands the lead minutes later, but he blazed his effort wide of the top corner.

The Glamour Boys had a chance of their own when Khama Billiat unleashed a strike at goal following a counter-attack, but the Zimbabwean forward’s shot sailed inches wide of the target.

Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune came to his side’s rescue in the 24th minute when he produced a full-stretch save to deny Lindokuhle Mbatha’s strike from outside the box.

After some poor defending from Highlands, Dumisani Zuma missed a golden opportunity to take the lead as the Amakhosi attacker directed his strike straight into the hands of Tapuwa Kapini.

Thabo Motlafi had a chance of his own minutes later when he unleashed a first-time volley from the edge of the box, but Khune was on hand to push his effort away to safety.

Amakhosi came out the better side in the second half and nearly took the lead through Zuma, but the attacker guided his header over the target.

Hendrick Ekstein should have made it 1-0, 20 minutes before time when he tried to backheel the ball into the net, but Kapini was on hand to keep out his effort.

Highlands had a chance of their own 10 minutes later when Mbatha had a free header at goal but his effort was easily saved by Khune.

Ekstein almost got a last-gasp winner late on when he produced a strike from inside the area, but the Amakhosi midfielder’s shot deflected wide of the target.

Shalulile thought he had the ball in the back of the net in stoppage time, but he was flagged for offside as both sides were forced to share the spoils at the Makhulong Stadium.
