Kaizer Chiefs claimed a 3-1 victory over Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership while Chippa United secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Baroka on Tuesday evening.

Neither side could keep possession of the ball in the opening stages and struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances in the opening 15 minutes of the match.

However, the Glamour Boys opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Simphiwe Tshabalala curled his fine free-kick into the back of the net from 25-yards out to make it 1-0.

Amakhosi were then awarded a penalty in the 28th minute when Thela Ngobeni brought down Chirambadare. Bernard Parker stepped up to take the penalty and had his penalty saved, but he managed to get the ball on the rebound to double their lead.

Ea Lla Koto came close to pulling one back just before the half-time interval but Mohammed Anas saw his effort deflect onto the upright.

Chiefs, however, then added a third goal in the 64th minute when Willard Katsande beat his marker before calmly guiding the ball into the bottom corner.

However, Stars pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute when Rooi Mahamutsa’s low free-kick beat everybody to found the back of the net from the edge of the area.

Steve Komphela’s side managed to hold onto their 3-1 lead until the final whistle to claim all three points at the FNB Stadium.

Meanwhile, Chippa United secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Baroka in the Absa Premiership at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, when Menzi Masuku cancelled out Maboke Matlakala’s 13h minute goal before Rhulani Manzini sealed the victory during injury time.
