Kaizer Chiefs were forced to settle for a point after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Polokwane City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The Glamour Boys last league outing ended in a 1-1 draw against Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates a few weeks ago, which left them seventh place on the table.

Meanwhile, Rise and Shine also dropped points in their previous league encounter after playing out to a 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday to extend their win run to four matches in all competitions.

Amakhosi got off the perfect start and opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Daniel Cardoso converted from the penalty spot after Nicholas Motloung was judged to have handled the ball in the area.

However, Chiefs’ lead didnt last long as Polokwane levelled matters five minutes later when Walter Musona’s fired his effort past Daniel Akpeyi, 1-1.

Hendrick Ekstein had a golden opportunity to restore his sides lead on the half hour mark, but the midfielder hesitated as Motloung made a vital tackle to recover the ball.

Chiefs should have made it 2-1 on the stroke of half time, but Khama Billiat guided his volley narrowly wide of the target.

The second half started much like the first with Chiefs seeing most of the ball, while City were trying to catch them on the counter.

The home team looked the more likelier side to score, but their poor decision making in the final let them down.

Billiat did brilliantly to hold up play before lobbing the ball into the path of Dumisani Zuma, who took a strike from point blank range, but City managed to clear their lines.

The home side continued to push for the winner, but were forced to rely on long balls in the box, but with no real target man to aim for.

The games ended level with Chiefs disappointed with this result as they will believe that they deserved the three points, but another goalkeeping error has cost them maximum points at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
