Bloemfontein Celtic have announced that midfielder Given Mashikinya has become the second PSL player to contract Covid-19.

Orlando Pirates midfielder Ben Motshwari was the first player to officially test positive for the disease.

The league has been ramping up testing in order to prepare for the potential restart of the season, which would preceded by the resumption of training.

The return-to-play protocols have been outlined by PSL acting CEO Mato Madlala with each club having to reach certain standards in order to begin training.

Following the tests, Mashikinya’s results came back positive and he has since gone into a 14-day quarantine, the club have confirmed.

‘Bloemontein Celtic can confirm that after we have conducted Covid-19 tests on Friday, 19 June 2020, one player [Given Mashikinya] tested positive,’ read a statement from Phunya Sele Sele.

The club further noted that the former Cape Town City attacker is asymptomatic and his health in a good state.

‘The player was and still is asymptomatic and is currently in isolation for the next 14 days,’ the statement concluded.
