Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro believes that his side are still in the running for the Absa Premiership title, despite their current position in the league standings.

With just five games remaining, Amakhosi are currently placed seventh in the league with 36 points from 25 games, eight points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates.

However, Castro insists that Amakhosi will continue to fight for glory until the final game of the campaign, as they have not given up hope to claim the league title.

‘In my mind, I think we need to be focused on our team. We need to take points, and obviously it’s step by step,’ Castro told the media.

‘Really, I don’t feel like this [we’ve lost hope of a title challenge]. Something, maybe, is going to happen until the end [of the season], so we need to take each game and try to take the points.

He added: ‘My motivation is that I’m alive and I’m blessed to be part of the Kaizer Chiefs family, so this is my big motivation.

‘For the team, the motivation is always there. We all know the games we have left now, and like I said, something can still happen before the end – maybe Sundowns is going to drop points, or Pirates or Wits, so we need to be able to win our matches.’

Kaizer Chiefs will next travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium when they take on the Black Leopards in the Absa Premiership on Saturday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
