Former Ajax Cape Town midfielder Brent Carelse says he is looking forward to the local derby between the Urban Warriors and Cape Town City on Saturday.

The Urban Warriors hosted the media at Cubana’s in Green Point, where they shared their vision for the remainder of the 2016-17 Absa Premiership campaign.

Carelse believes that the Mother City has always produced the best talent in the country, dating back to more than 17 years past.

‘I am really excited, I support local football a lot,’ Carelse told the Ajax Cape Town website.

‘I think Cape Town as a city has always produced the best talent in South Africa – without a doubt, from Mark Williams’ days.

The 35-year-old says he is looking forward to the local derby between Ajax and Cape Town City and says he is excited to see what the result will be.

‘We have a point to prove in terms of staying up there, trying to challenge for the league year in, year out. The Cape Town teams will get there eventually when we hold on to our best players.

‘The Cape Derby has a rich history, dating back to Spurs and Hellenic. There is a great rivalry. We play for pride more than anything else and I am looking forward to a great game this weekend.

‘Playing in the Cape Town derby is very emotional. It’s one of the best games to play in.’

Ajax Cape Town are now set to face Cape Town City in a local derby at the Cape Town Town Stadium on Saturday.

Kickoff has been set for 20:15.
