Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has confirmed that defender Daniel Cardoso has committed his future to the club after penning a new contract.

The Glamour Boys exercised the option of extending Cardoso’s contract with a further year on his two-year deal signed in 2018.

The 31-year-old now joins the likes of Daniel Akpeyi, Willard Katsande and Bernard Parker, who have all recently signed new deals with the Soweto giants.

Amakhosi have also brought in reinforcements after signing Kenyan international Anthony Akumu Agay from Zambian outfit Zesco on a three-and-a-half-year deal, while James Kotei parted ways with the club. Among those leaving during the January transfer window were Kabelo Mahlasela and Sizwe Twala, who joined Polokwane City and Swallows FC on loan.

‘We are addressing other contracts,’ confirmed Motaung.

‘As we did in the past week, we will give an update when the time is right. We just urge and assure our supporters to be patient and focus on the remaining competitions of the season.’

Cardoso has become an integral member of the Amakhosi squad under the tutelage of coach Ernst Middendorp, playing every minute of their 22 games. He has already found the back of the net on five occasions so far this season.
