Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has urged his side to shake off their recent defeat to Kaizer Chiefs and focus on pushing for the Absa Premiership title, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The Citizens were eliminated from the Nedbank Cup following their 2-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs at Mbombela Stadium last weekend.

Having already lifted the MTN8 title this season, they will also be looking to add the league title to their trophy cabinet.

City currently occupy fourth place in the league standings with 40 points from 24 games, trailing log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by four points, with six games left to play.

‘Whenever we turn up and play the way we play it’s exceptionally difficult for any team to stop us,’ McCarthy said.

‘We can’t let this game [loss to Chiefs] determine how the rest of our season ends. We shake it off and it’s back to training to prepare for Golden Arrows.

‘In the league we are still sitting nicely for all four teams. We can’t surrender now.’

The City mentor urged his players to continue their recent run of form until the end of the campaign as they continue in their bid to claim glory at the end of the season.

‘Sometimes this can have a negative effect, because last season I experienced it. It would be a shame if these boys surrendered what they have worked so hard for.

‘We would be throwing away a whole season of work and because of a performance against Chiefs.’

Cape Town City will be hoping to bounced back when they take on Golden Arrow in their next Absa Premiership encounter on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.
