Cape Town City head coach Benni McCarthy insists that he has found the new Sergio Ramos within his squad.

Following their exit from the Telkom Knockout competition, the Citizens returned to winning ways after claiming a 3-0 victory over AmaZulu at Cape Town Stadium over the weekend.

The win sees City move up to 11th place in the Absa Premiership standings with 10 points from the nine matches played so far this campaign.

With Kwanda Mngonyama suspended and injuries to Keanu Cupido and Kouassi Kouadja, McCarthy insists that he was forced to play left back Edmilson Dove alongside Taariq Fielies, who impressed in the centre back role.

‘It was a stroke of luck, really,’ McCarthy told KickOff.com.

‘Kwanda [Mngonyama] was suspended after picking up four yellow cards, but luckily we had [Taariq] Fielies who came back into the side. We had the young boy Keanu Cupido who was destined to play, but he then picked up a knock and was complaining and moaning.’

‘I then had to make a decision: I know we have two good left-backs, and Edmilson is very quick and great in the air – he’s one of the best headers I’ve seen in the game.

‘I saw him play in a back three for Mozambique, so I asked him if he could do the job for us. And I think I’ve found my Sergio Ramos in my team! And I’ll claim it – I’ll claim that it was tactical genius that I shifted him there! But no, it was just fluke.’

Cape Town City will hoping to continue their winning ways when they welcome Black Leopards to Cape Town Stadium on 11 November with kick-off set for 3:30pm.
