Cape Town City boss John Comitis has confirmed that coach Benni McCarthy may not be on the bench for the clash against Orlando Pirates.

Comitis told KickOff.com that McCarthy did not accompany the team as they left Cape Town Airport on Monday to travel up to Johannesburg for their away fixture at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.

According to the City boss, McCarthy’s wife Stacey is currently in hospital which could force the coach to miss the game.

‘Benni’s wife is not well. She has been admitted to hospital with a collapsed lung.

‘We understand his situation and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,’ added the City chairman.

If McCarthy is not in attendance, his duties will fall to assistant coach Vasili Manousakis.

McCarthy’s absence could prove critical as the Citizens, who have dropped to 12th position on the log, will look to bounce back from the weekend’s 4-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs and continue their preparation for the upcoming MTN8 final.

Orlando Pirates host Cape Town City at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening, with kick off at 7:30pm.
