Mamelodi Sundowns new signing Mauricio Affonso is relishing the chance to write his name in the club’s history books ahead of his debut season.

The 27-year-old joined Sundowns from Peruvian First Division side Club Alianza Lima after putting pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Brazilians.

The South American forward got a taste of playing in a Sundowns shirt for the first time when the Brazilians played to a 1-1 draw with TS Sporting during their pre-season friendly in Nelspruit on Saturday.

Affonso has set himself some personal targets as he feels are obtainable during his debut season with the Brazilians.

‘I have looked at the scoring record of previous top goal-scorers for the club and it is very impressive. So, I hope to be part of that history. And I want to experience the continent as well because I have heard a lot of stories, but I want to see it for myself when the season starts,’ Affonso concluded.

Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Tshwane rivals SuperSport United in their opening Absa Premiership fixture at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on 3 August, with kick-off set for 3pm.
