Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola acknowledges that they have let down the Pirates faithful in the midst of their disappointing Absa Premiership campaign this season.

The Mayfair based-outfit have endured a dismal league campaign thus far and languish in ninth position on the table, six points away from bottom-placed Baroka.

Makola apologised to the Buccaneers fans for marring the club’s 80-year anniversary with their poor string of results, which has seen them garner more losses (six) than wins (five) in the league thus far.

‘I know we have disappointed our fans out there so far this season, but it’s football and these things happen to the best of teams in the world,’ Makola told Soccer Laduma.

‘One thing that they must know for sure is that we will never go onto the field of play and say that we are deliberately going to make the team lose,’ he added.

The 30-year-old stressed that Pirates will give it their all in the seven remaining league matches in addition to competing in the Nedbank Cup.

‘For the remainder of the games, we are going to give our all for this great club.

‘We would like to apologise to them and we know that this is a big year for us, with this being our 80th anniversary. So far, it has not been what we expected,’ he concluded.

Pirate turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals where they will face Bloemfontein Celtic.

The match at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday is set for 20:30.
