Catch up with the highlights and reaction from an entertaining day of Nedbank Cup action which saw Mamelodi Sundowns cruise into the semi-finals of the competition with a 5-0 win over lower-tier Summerfield Dynamos.

The Brazilians made light work of the ABC Motsepe league side on Saturday evening as first half goals from Gatson Sirino and Lesedi Kapinga put them in control at the break before a second half brace from Kermit Erasmus and a late goal from Pavol Safranko handed Downs a big win.

“Yes, in the first 10-15 minutes we were like a deer in the headlights and conceded two goals which we said we going to try and prevent from happening,” said Dynamos coach Clinton Larsen to SuperSport TV after the game.

“Don’t give them the early goal, once they get that they control the game and that’s exactly what happened. You know, early in the second half we get a chance to go 2-1 and then really put them under a little bit of pressure and it hits the upright and they scored the third thereafter.

“So it was backs to the wall after that, but the gulf in class was clear for everybody to see. I’m happy the boys gave it their all. We weren’t good enough, we can now focus on the national playoffs.

Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mnqithi, however, was full of praise for his side after making 10 changes to the starting line-up.

“At Sundowns I find difficult to know which team is stronger and which one is weaker because these boys are very good, if we were to play everybody who deserves to play at once we could even have a 30 v 11 because we’ve got a very good number of boys who are working very hard to make sure that plant themselves into the team,” Mngqithi told SuperSport after the game.

“Yes, when you change the line-up others will say ‘what are you doing?’ But on the other side you say ‘I want to be fresh for the next game because the next match is as important as this one’.

Sundowns advance to the final four as they look to pick up more domestic silverware.
