Luc Eymael has commented on guiding Free State Stars to their first cup final in over two decades after beating Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup semi-final.

A brace by Harris Tchilimbou coupled with a heroic performance from Thela Ngobeni saw El La Koto reach their first-cup final since 1994.

‘You know, we were last in the final in 1994, and that was more than 20 years ago,’ Eymael said in post-match comments.

‘It was a very good performance from us, especially as Chiefs are one of the most popular teams in the country.

‘It was kind of a David and Goliath match if you compare the means that were in place, you know the possibility of buying players at Chiefs, and the difference with us is big.

‘I think we played very well and I want to congratulate my players, technical staff and medical staff and the board for the performance on Saturday. It was simple, we had to absorb the pressure of Chiefs.

‘We knew that Chiefs would put pressure on us. We also had to go fast at the back of the wingbacks and to use our opportunities when we get one on one with the central defenders.

‘We could have scored four goals, especially from counter-attacks in the second half. We won and that’s the most important thing. We got the revenge, which is what is also important,’ he concluded.
