Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro is relishing the opportunity to return to action and rediscover his form ahead of their Nedbank Cup encounter with TS Galaxy on Saturday.

The Colombia international began the 2021-22 campaign on the sidelines due to an injury, but made his long-awaited return to action during their 1-0 win over Maritzburg United as a second-half substitution in the DStv Premiership back in November last year.

The 32-year-old striker has since made three appearances since returning from injury and could feature against TS Galaxy at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Castro believes the break came at the right time for the club as it afforded injured players much-needed time to recover from their respective injuries as they return to action over the weekend.

“I’m all right now and I think this break it helped us with injured players to come into the game, so for us it was a good time to heal ourselves in terms of fitness and match conditioning,” Castro told his club’s media department.

“We are ready to take the games ahead with the responsibility and desire.”

Castro also touched on his memories playing against the Rockets as well as his plans for their upcoming Nedbank Cup clash with their 2019 final opponents as well as returning to his former goalscoring form.

“Hopefully, next game I want to celebrate, I want to do my celebration and also show I still have the hunger and still have the desire to play and win for Kaizer Chiefs,” Castro added.

“The Nedbank Cup is important for us, each and every time we take it serious. We have to take it in the right way for us starting on the weekend and, obviously, we have to give our all and continue into the next step.

“They [TS Galaxy] have quite a good team and obviously we all know each and every team from the PSL. When they come to play Kaizer Chiefs, they play for their lives, so it’s just to remain wary on where we want to be.”
