SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter says his side are focused on playing their games as they come, ahead of their Nedbank Cup quarter-finals clash against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Matsatsantsa made their way into the quarter-finals after they beat KwaDukuza United 2-0 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on 4 April through goals by Mandla Masango and Aubrey Modiba.

However, the defending champions will be hoping to return to winning ways after coming off the back of a 1-0 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday.

The Scottish coach suggests that fatigue does take its toll on the players, but he says he has enough depth in his squad to rest his players when needed.

‘One of the things the team has done quite well, is every time one of the players get a knock, someone else will step up,’ Baxter told the media.

‘We don’t talk about fatigue, and obviously it’s a factor, but for us we focus on playing our games as they come.

‘I don’t want to put bad results on fatigue and travelling to CAF.’

Baxter went on to say that his side will remain professional and and give it their all in the hopes of progressing to the last four of the competition.

‘The fact that we have former Kaizer Chiefs players is irrelevant, they are playing for SuperSport United now,’ he added.

‘To be professional means you have to take all the outside pressure and get in the field, and still put in your best performance.’

Meanwhile, captain Dean Furman insists that Matsatsantsa’s goal and focus is on retaining the Nedbank Cup trophy this season.

‘We still have a lot to play for this season, so we are not throwing the towel as yet,’ Furman said.

‘Our goal or focus regardless which team we meet, is to keep the Cup at Supersport United.’

SuperSport United will now travel to the FNB Stadium when they take on Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.

Kick-off has been scheduled for 18:00.
