Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker believes his side’s performance this campaign warrants them being in another semi-final this season.

Stellies are currently on a 21 match unbeaten run across all competitions following their 4-0 victory over SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday.

The Maroon will now take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-final of the competition, although the dates and venues are yet to be determined.

Barker says he is extremely proud of his team’s performance and is hoping they can maintain their current run of form heading into their next fixture.

“When I look at a performance like this, to beat a team of SuperSport United’s calibre, with the experienced and quality players they had on the pitch at the start, and to score four goals and not concede, I don’t think enough credit is given to these players,” Barker said.

“They’ve gone 21 games unbeaten now with 16 wins. We’ve scored 40 goals and conceded 10, so they deserve to be in another semi-final, the fourth semi-final in a row, so I’m really, really proud.

“This was one of thee games since I’ve been at this football club that I can look back and say this team has matured, they’ve grown and developed. We didn’t just show fighting quality but also quality with the ball.

“Some of the play and some of the goals we created, and some of the goals we could have scored, left me in awe with the quality that I saw.”
