Real Madrid have announced that duo Luka Modric and Marcelo could face a spell on the sidelines after getting injured during their 2-1 victory over Malaga on Saturday.

Marcelo limped off the field in the 25th minute with a hamstring injury, while midfielder Modric sustained a thigh strain injury.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are already without the injured Pepe, Dani Carvajal and Gareth Bale.

‘Following tests carried out today on Luka Modric at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a strain in his right abductor muscle. His recovery will continue to be assessed,’ reports the Real Madrid website.

‘Following tests carried out today on Marcelo at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a grade 2 muscle injury in his left hamstring. His recovery will continue to be assessed.’

The European champions are currently one point clear of Sevilla at the summit of the La Liga standings and face Real Sociedad on Sunday.
