Real Madrid academy graduate Gonzalo Garcia says he does not want to compare himself to anyone following his stellar performance against Al-Hilal.
Garcia came through the academy ranks at Los Blancos when he joined Real’s youth setup in 2014.
The 21-year-old was in fine form this season, scoring 25 goals and registering four assists in 36 appearances in the Primera Federacion.
The Spanish forward has scored and assisted one goal in his four appearances for Real’s senior team this season, featuring thrice in the La Liga and once in the Copa del Rey
Garcia continued his success in the Club World Cup when he got his name on the scoresheet in Real’s 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Wednesday.
“To play for Real Madrid for the first time is a dream. I am looking forward to the rest of our matches and I’m hoping we can win.
“For me, it’s not about being noticed, it’s the fact it shows that players coming through La Fabrica, and Castilla in particular, we are ready to compete at the top.
“The coach asked me to stay on the last line right from the start of the match, to focus on the centre-backs, to be in the box, waiting for any potential rebounds, crosses or chances in the area I could take advantage of. It’s what we’ve worked on all these weeks training together.”
He added: “I definitely think I have the potential to play for Real Madrid.”
“I knew what I had to do, but I don’t compare myself to anyone. We’re talking about Real Madrid, the best players in the world.
“And, like I said, myself and the rest of the Castilla players will always be given a chance. We’ll try to make the most of it, just as we have been doing all season”, he said, following the draw against Al Hilal.”
