Manchester United have confirmed that Marcus Rashford will miss their Europa League quarter-final first leg clash against Sevilla and is expected to be sidelined for a number of games after suffering a muscle injury.

This season, the 25-year-old has scored 28 goals for Erik ten Hag’s team, but he had to leave Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton on a limp.

“Marcus Rashford will be unavailable for Thursday’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final game against Sevilla because of a muscle injury,” United said in a statement.

“The forward was withdrawn in the 80th minute of Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton at Old Trafford and immediately headed to the dressing room for treatment.

“Subsequent assessment of the injury suggested that Marcus will be unavailable for a few games, but is expected to be back for the season run-in.”

Anthony Martial just got back into shape and scored United’s second goal against Everton. Wout Weghorst, who is on loan from United, is another attacking option.

Christian Eriksen came on as a substitute against Everton after being out for a long time with an injury. United are likely to have Casemiro back in the squad for Thursday’s game against Sevilla after the Brazilian midfielder served a suspension.

Manchester United won the League Cup in February. They are trying to get into the top four in the Premier League, and later this month they will play Brighton in the FA Cup semi-finals.
