Sadio Mane scored two first half goals in two minutes to stun Tottenham Hotspur and move Jurgen Klopp’s Reds up to fourth above Manchester United.

Mane’s breathless double ended Liverpool’s five-match winless run with victory over Tottenham Hotspur, who now find themselves in the group of five teams chasing a top four place.

The winger, who missed most of January on Africa Cup of Nations duty, opened the scoring after 16 minutes, finishing Georginio Wijnaldum’s splendid through-ball.

Just 138 seconds later Mane had his second, robbing England defender Eric Dier before finishing after goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had saved twice.

Liverpool had further chances to score in the first half, although Spurs’ Son Heung-min also had a shot well saved by Simon Mignolet.

The contest was more even in the second half, although Joel Matip headed straight at Lloris and Philippe Coutinho shot wide.

Liverpool’s first league win of 2017 puts them on 49 points, within one of Spurs, who remain second.
