Manchester United have agreed to sign England midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea for an initial £55 million ($69 million), according to reports.

Reports say that United will pay Mount an extra £5 million based on how often he plays and how well he does at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old’s contract with Chelsea is up next year. It is thought that he has agreed to a five-year deal with an option for an extra year.

Getting Mount would give United manager Erik ten Hag more options in the middle of the pitch.

Mount worked his way up at Chelsea, where he played 129 Premier League games and scored 27 goals and set up 22 others.

The 24-year-old has played for England 36 times and started the game in the Euro 2020 final, which Italy won. He won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021.

Last season, the attacking midfielder only scored three goals in the Premier League. His form had dropped, and he had been hurt a lot.

After a huge spending spree over the past year, Chelsea’s new manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to cut down on the size of the team.

The west London club sold goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and defender Kalidou Koulibaly to the Saudi Pro League. Midfielder Mateo Kovacic left to join Premier League champions Manchester City.

In Ten Hag’s first season, United finished third in the Premier League and won the League Cup, but they had trouble scoring goals.

Ten Hag’s team has been linked to several top strikers, such as Harry Kane of Tottenham, Goncalo Ramos of Benfica, and Victor Osimhen of Napoli.
