Manchester United have confirmed that goalkeeper Jack Butland has joined the club on loan from Crystal Palace until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Following Martin Dubravka’s recent recall by parent club Newcastle United, Erik was keen to bolster his goalkeeping department for the remainder of the season.

As a result, Ten Hag opted to sign Butland on a short-term loan from fellow Premier League outfit Crystal Palace

The 29-year-old goalkeeper has made 87 appearances in the Premier League playing for the likes of Stoke City and Crystal Palace.

The former Leeds United goalkeeper has also been capped nine times by the England national team squad since making his debut under then-coach Roy Hodgson at the age of 19 back in August 2012.

“This is an amazing club and one that I am now proud to represent,” Butland told Manchester united’s official website.

“I’m really looking forward to working with an unbelievable goalkeeping group, supporting each other every day to create the best training and playing environment for the team.

“I’ve played against David De Gea and represented England alongside Tom Heaton; they are top-class keepers, and I am relishing the opportunity to compete alongside and support them as team-mates.

“There is a lot that this group can achieve this season and I’m excited to play my part in helping everyone to reach these ambitions.”

Meanwhile, United boss Erik ten Hag believes that Butland’s experience can only benefit the side moving forward.

“After the recall of Martin [Dubravka], we had to react,” he told club media.

“We have so many games – we are not even halfway through the season — and we don’t want to get into a position where two goalies are injured or unavailable, it can also be a suspension.

“Hopefully, that won’t happen but we’re in a moment of the season where it’s about getting in a good position to hopefully win trophies and [get] into the Champions League positions.

“If you miss goalies, you can’t replace them with inexperienced goalkeepers. That’s the reason, we want to avoid that. We are really happy, we have a really experience but also really skilful goalkeeper in.”
