Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season following a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Friday evening.

Chelsea captain John Terry was out with injury allowing David Luiz to make his first start since re-joining the Blues from PSG on Deadline Day.

Liverpool enjoyed a fruitful start after breaking the deadlock in the 16th minutes when an unmarked Dejan Lovren side-footed the ball across Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois  from six-yards out.

The Reds extended their lead in the 37th minute as Gary Cahill’s clearance landed at the feet of Jordan Henderson, who neatly curled the ball into the top corner from 25-yards out.

Antonio Conte’s side could only manage to produce two efforts at goal in the first half, while the likes of Diego Costa, Willian, and Eden Hazard underperforming in the opening half.

Despite Liverpool leading 2-0, The Reds went for an attacking change in the 57th minute when Jurgen Klopp introduced Divock Origi, replacing Daniel Sturridge.

The Blues eventually pulled one back in the 60th minute when midfielder Nemanja Matic made his way to the Liverpool byline before picking out Costa, who side-footed home from close range to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

With 10 minutes remaining, Antonio Conte opted for a triple change bring on Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, and Victor Moses in search of a late equaliser.

The Blues pushed for an equalsing goal in the closing stages but could not bypass the Liverpool defence as the Reds held on for a 2-1 victory over Chelsea to move into fourth place on the Premier League standings, while Chelsea dropped to third.
