Liverpool moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League standings following their 4-1 victory over Luton Town at Anfield.

Chiedozie Ogbene’s header gave Luton the lead at the interval as Liverpool, and Luis Diaz in particular, missed opportunity after opportunity.

After the break, the Reds were on a roll, and their exertion paid off when skipper Virgil van Dijk scored a header from a corner in the 56th minute to bring his team level.

Liverpool took the lead 125 seconds later when Alexis Mac Allister crossed the ball from the byeline and Cody Gakpo nodded in from close range.

In the 71st minute, Diaz finally received his just desserts for his unwavering work as he scored the third goal on his ninth attempt of the match.

The Colombian striker skillfully manoeuvred into the box and effortlessly side-stepped Thomas Kaminski at the near post, providing the hosts with some breathing room on a night that at first appeared to be theirs to lose in the championship match.

In the ninetieth minute, Harvey Elliott—who was playing for the club for the first time—scored the fourth goal to cap off an excellent second half.

After losing 3-1 at Arsenal last month, Liverpool now has three straight victories. This gave them more momentum heading into Sunday’s EFL Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley.

Despite having played one more game than the reigning champions, Jurgen Klopp’s team leads second-place Manchester City by four points, with Luton still in third position.
