South African midfielder Khanya Leshabela is confident he will get the opportunity to play in the Premier League with Leicester City this season.

The 19-year-old spent the whole of last season playing for Leicester’s U23 side in the Premier League 2, where he bagged one goal from 15 appearances across all competitions.

However, Leshabela has since been promoted to the Foxes first-team squad for the 2019-20 campaign, despite already featuring in all four of the City U23s’ Premier League 2 fixtures so far this campaign.

While Leshabela’s international career is going from strength to strength, he is waiting patiently for his chance in the Foxes first team.

‘I was with the first team in the pre-season, I think I impressed and I enjoyed my time there. So, I am positive that this season I will get my chance to play in the EPL,’ Leshabela told the media.

‘Obviously I wasn’t part of the coach’s plans, but I was ready to play my role in the team. I wasn’t too fussy; I was waiting for my chance.’

The young South African midfielder represented Ama-glug-glug on Tuesday as they sealed their place at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt in November.

‘This was my first U23 camp. All the boys were welcoming, making me feel like a part of the family,’ he added.

‘The tempo here [at the U23s] is very quick – everyone is very sharp. So you have to be on your toes and ready all the time.

‘When you receive the ball you must already know what you will do with it, plan ahead. Obviously, I’ll get used to the tempo.’
