Sergio Aguero’s goal rescued a point for Manchester City following their 1-1 with Liverpool in their Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The Citizens enjoyed the better start with Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling threatening early down the flanks, although chances in the final third were hard to come by.

City came close to opening the scoring in the 20th minute when David Silva saw his volleyed effort from 18 yards out sail inches wide of the target.

However, James Milner came to the Reds rescue in the 40th minute when the captain slid in to block Sterling from firing into an empty net.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came close to scoring late in the half when Adam Lallana fired his volley at goal, which Willy Caballero tipped over the crossbar.

Liverpool were then awarded a penalty in the 50th minute when Roberto Firmino was brought down by Gael Clichy. Milner stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake from the spot-kick.

However, City eventually levelled matters in the 68th minute when Aguero latched on to a cross from Kevin de Bruyne, before putting the ball into the back of the net from six yards out to make it 1-1.

Pep Guardiola’s side nearly went ahead in the 77th minute, but De Brunye’s left-footed effort could only find the woodwork.

Liverpool had a golden opportunity to win the match in the 82nd minute when Lallana somehow failed to find the target from six yards out.

City pressed forward in search of a late winner in the closing stages, but the Liverpool defence managed to stand firm, as the match ended 1-1, with both side’s sharing the spoils at the Etihad Stadium.
