Bidvest Wits failed to qualify for the Caf Champions League group after playing out to a 0-0 to Al Ahly in their second-leg tie.

The Egyptian side looked lively in the opening exchanges, but struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances in the final third.

Chances were hard to come by for both sides as neither side could find the all-important goal in the final third.

Phakamani Mahlambi and Gabadinho Mhango looked lively in the early stages, but the Wits duo failed to stay composed as the half went on.

However, Wits nearly broke the deadlock at the stroke of half-time, but Ekramy produced a fine save to deny Mhango.

The home side carved out a chance in the 69th minute when Pulembe set up Eleazar Rodgers, who had his close range effort saved by Ekramy.

Ekramy came to Al Ahly’s rescue in the 81st minute when he was well-positioned to deal with Rodgers’ headed effort at goal.

The Egyptians nearly put the tie beyond Wits, but they hit the upright through Gamal, who only had Moeneeb Josephs to beat.

However, neither side could find the opening. The match ended goalless after the full-time whistle, as Al Ahly won the tie 1-0 on aggregate.
