Mamelodi Sundowns may be seeded for Wednesday’s Caf Champions League quarter-final draw after their record run made them group winners, but they will still receive a tricky draw.

Mosimane spoke of the importance of finishing ahead of Wydad Casablanca in Group C in order to try to secure an easier route to the next round.

The Brazilians managed to do this with their 1-0 win over Wydad on Saturday, but results across the competition had a number of the traditional African giants finish second in their respective groups.

The draw takes place on 5 February in Cairo, and is governed by four basic rules: the four leaders face second-placed teams, two teams from the same country may face each other, a team cannot play against the leader of their group and the second leg will be played in the leader home.

This means that Downs will face either the Egyptian duo of Zamalek and al Ahly‚ or another Moroccan side in Raja Casablanca after DR Congo giants TP Mazembe‚ the Tunisian duo of Étoile du Sahel and holders Espérance de Tunis all topped their groups, while they also could face Moroccans Wydad Casablanca‚ who were with them in Group C in the last stage.

Pitso Mosimane’s men, though, will not be fearing their next-round opponents as they have built a certain Champions League pedigree over the last few seasons. They have become one of the constant challengers and with Kaizer Chiefs sitting atop the Absa Premiership, focus may just be placed on the Champions League.
