Hear what goalkeepers Kennedy Mweene and Denis Onyango had to say following Mamelodi Sundowns’ 1-0 victory over Al Ahly in their Caf Champions League Group A clash at the FNB Stadium this past weekend.

The Brazilians managed to do the double over Pitso Mosimane’s side Al Ahly claiming six points in their two-legged Group A clash of the Champions League.

A winning goal from Peter Shalulile helped Sundowns remain at the top of the Group A table with 10 points from four matches, which subsequently qualified them for the quarter-finals with two games to spare.

Experienced goalkeepers Mweene and Onyango have commented on keeping a clean sheet and walking away with maximum points against the current Champions League holders.

“We wanted to win the game and we won, it wasn’t easy and we were playing with a lot of experience in Africa but we managed to beat them. It’s not easy to get six points from Al Ahly,” Mweene said Sundowns’ official Twitter page.

“We showed character with a team that has a lot of young players and not all of them has the experience to play in Africa but they’re getting there.

“I think it’s a huge achievement but we must not sit on this achievement. It just shows that if we work extra hard this team can go places, because there is a lot of talent and a lot of youngsters showing signs and the sky is the limit.

Meanwhile, Onyango said: “Very good game from the guys, we put the pressure on our opponents [Al Ahly] and, of course, we managed to get the goal we wanted because we knew the heat will disturb them a little bit.

“So, when we got the goal I think we pulled them a bit down and we played our game.

“Most importantly, the clean sheet, it’s very, very important in the Champions League to get a clean sheet. We are on four now which is very, very good and I’m happy for the goalkeeping department and the entire team.”
