Mamelodi Sundowns are confident ahead of their Caf Champions league encounter against Saint George, but are wary of the threat their opponents pose to their title defence.

Masandawana occupy second spot in Group C, three points behind leaders Esperance and are equal on points as their opponents, but Pitso Mosimane’s charges didn’t appear bothered prior to jetting off to Ethiopia.

‘We are not in a difficult position,’ Percy Tau told Sowetan Live.

‘If we get a win, then we are in a good place. We need to go out there and do our best.

‘We know what we need to do.

‘We do not underestimate them. They have international players in their team who play for Ethiopia, so they can surprise us,’ he concluded.

The reigning Caf league champions kick-started their campaign with a goalless draw against Saint George, and anything less than maximum points could place them in jeopardy of reaching the next stage of the tournament.

Mosmiane confirmed the unavailability of Khama Billiat and Wayne Arendse, both of whom are nursing ankle injuries.

‘They are not ready. Khama is not going to play. He is doing rehab.

‘Wayne has been training. He says he is pain-free, but the ankle still feels funny. I think it needs to loosen up a bit because it’s stiff.

‘I don’t think he will play, unless the doctors give me the green light. Maybe he will be on the bench,’ he concluded.
