Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane wants his side finishing top of Group C to avoid facing TP Mazembe, Esperance and Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League quarter-finals.

The Brazilians were drawn in Group C alongside Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), USM Alger (Algeria) and Petro de Luanda (Angola).

Sundowns are set to welcome Petro de Luanda to Loftus Versfeld Stadium in their opening group stage clash on 29 November, before travelling to the Stade Mohamed V where they will face Wydad Athletic Club.

They will then take on USM Alger in back-to-back fixtures and face Petro de Luanda in the return leg before ending their group stages with a trip to Wydad.

Mosimane has set a target for Sundowns to win all three home games in the group stages to better their chances of finish top of Group C.

‘We have never been to Angola, that team always wins the league. Recently one of the Angolan teams reached the semi-finals of the Champions League,’ Mosimane told his club’s official website.

‘When it comes to playing Wydad, maybe this time we will go to Casablanca because they always take us to Rabat. Our family members are tired of seeing us play that match.

‘We are improving when we go there, always losing 1-0. The last time we lost 2-1, but at least we scored, we needed one goal to reach the final. So that means they are not comfortable when they play us.

‘The way it is with reaching the last eight is that if you finish top of your group you are going to avoid the big guns – TP Mazembe, Esperance and Al Ahly. So it is important to be top of our group to avoid them.

‘The last time we thought we would avoid one of them, but we faced Al Ahly in the quarter-finals and it was a different story. We need to win our home games and the worst we do away is to maybe draw.’

Mamelodi Sundowns will now focus on the Absa Premiership when they take on Kaizer Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off set for 3:30pm.
